We create community based on Jewish values by providing quality programs and services in a safe and secure environment for people of all ages.
Akron, Ohio has been home to a thriving Jewish community since the mid-1800s. Over time, the community has grown and evolved, both in size and geography. Despite changes over the generations the community remains deeply committed—in deed, philanthropy, and leadership—to the current and future needs of its members.
The Akron Jewish Center—the community’s central home--was first formed in 1920 and moved into a new building on Balch Street in 1929. Today, over 90 years later, the 60-acre community campus on White Pond Drive, renovated through a $7 million dollar capital campaign in 2004-2005, is home to the Jerry Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron. The community campus also houses the Jewish Community Board of Akron, Jewish Family Service, and The Lippman School.
