(11-05-2007 - Akron, OH)
Chanukah begins on December 4, and just in time for shopping, the Shaw JCC of Akron will hold a Jewish Book Festival from Sunday, November 11 through Wednesday, November 14. During those days, the Shaw JCC will be home to a Jewish book store with titles for all ages. Hours are 12:30 pm-4:30 pm on November 11; 9 am-9 pm on November 12; 9 am-6 pm November 13; and 9 am-9 pm November 14.
On Monday, November 12 at 7 pm, the Jewish Book Festival will host a wine and cheese event with Iris Krasnow, author of I Am My Mother’s Daughter. In her book, Krasnow explores the phenomena that, with women’s life expectancy inching up past 80, adult daughters may be embroiled with their mothers well past the time their own hair turns gray. The good news: living longer means there is more time to make peace, and Krasnow shows adult daughters how. Admission to the event is $5 and the book is $15; tickets and books are available at the Shaw JCC desk, and one free ticket to the event is included with each book purchased.
On Wednesday, November 14, the Jewish Book Festival will host a Family Spaghetti Dinner at 6 pm and a 7 pm author talk with Sharon Duke Estroff, author of Can I have a Cell Phone for Hanukkah? Estroff, an internationally syndicated parenting columnist, award-winning Jewish educator and mother of four, illuminates the ways that Jewish tradition can be used to form a lasting emotional safety net for modern families. During Estroff’s talk, children will be able to participate in Sammy Spider’s Pajama Party Story Hour. Tickets to the dinner and program are $20 per family; copies of Can I Have a Cell Phone for Hanukkah? are $12.95; and the dinner, program and book are available for $29.95. Reservations are available by calling the Shaw JCC at 330-867-7850.
