I am Julia. The JCC was a big part of my life growing up and now that I have two children of my own, I wanted J to be a part of theirs. We’ve been members here for over 6 year.... I exercise and swim while the boys are playing basketball and basically finding positive outlets for their unbelievable amounts of energy.
It was last November when I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition. I tried to keep our lives together for as long as I could, but in January I got worse and had to take a medical leave. My paid leave only carried us through June, right about the same time when my doctors recommended exercise for my recovery. Unfortunately, between lost income and medical bills, it was clear I would not be able to afford it. I faced a humbling moment. Asking for help was not easy but Families Supporting Families came through for me. I had tears in my eyes when I got the grant letter.
Now I’m getting better and even got back to work part time. I strongly believe that exercising at the J and being part of this supportive community played a major role in my recovery. And the fact that the boys could enjoy a “stay-cation” during this difficult time means everything to me. What I got was far beyond a membership support. I got my health, I got a peace of mind knowing that my boys are safe and secure, and I got to feel I was part of a community. Thank you for your gifts.
