Women’s Auxiliary of the Shaw JCC voted to make a big Splash! at their quarterly meeting on Thursday, February 20, by pledging $100K to support the renovation of the indoor pool and locker rooms at the Shaw JCC. $50,000 will be given immediately and the additional $50,000 will be paid in $10,000 increments over the next 5 years.
This generous donation is made possible because of Auxiliary’s ongoing fundraising efforts. A motion to support the Pool Project passed in a unanimous vote. The $100,000 pledge is the largest gift ever made by Women’s Auxiliary in the 85 years of its existence. Teresa Weinberger, Auxiliary president, explains why Auxiliary decided to make this stretch gift: “We believe that the JCC without an indoor pool is like car without an engine. It may look good on the outside, but it can’t move forward. Our pool is like the engine that makes our car run….without it we can’t make much progress. We’re so pleased and proud that we are able to support this project in such a meaningful way and to partner with others in our community who are making this project possible."
The Shaw JCC’s Women’s Auxiliary is unique. Established in 1929, it is the last JCC organization of its kind in the whole nation. In its 85 years of giving, Auxiliary has supported the pre-school, the kitchen, senior adult programming, summer day camp, the Annual Picnic and other Shaw JCC functions. In addition to fundraising for the Shaw JCC, Auxiliary is involved with the social and cultural activities of the community. Every year it hosts Purim Ball where Jewish high school senior women are honored by their family and friends and it promotes the Yearbook, a community directory that’s updated annually. Support for the indoor pool will come from the Yearbook so please consider buying ads! Women’s Auxiliary invites women and men of all ages and backgrounds to join and help make an impact in our community in a socially engaging environment.
