The Jewish Community Board of Akron owns four Jewish cemeteries in the area. The largest one is Sherbondy Hill Cemetery, off White Street.  When JCBA was deeded the cemetery, only enough money was given from the burial society’s endowment to mow the grounds.  There are not enough funds to pay for cleanup of fallen trees and debris and weed removal.

Join members of the community at Sherbondy Hill Cemetery to clean up debris and maintain the dignity of those buried there. Please RSVP to Julie Katz Julie_Katz@jewishakron.org or (330)835-0005.

Bring with you gardening tools and gardening gloves. Make sure to wear long pants and long sleeves. We will provide trash bags and water.

If you want to meet at the Shaw JCC to carpool to the cemetery, please let us know when you RSVP.

This is a great activity for high school students who need community service credit or for families of older children, as well as people of all ages.
