Cleveland Indians owner, chairman and CEO Paul Dolan will be the featured speaker for our 15th annual Sports Dinner on Thursday, June 8 at Canal Park in Akron. Dolan has a powerful story to tell, not only one of the Indians’ World Series near win but also one of many philanthropic causes he is involved in throughout the community. He exemplifies the values of the Shaw JCC and what this dinner aims to support, and is sure to be a draw for sports fans and beyond. Monies raised from ticket sales, auction and sponsorships will benefit Shaw JCC’s programs and services offered to the community. A Friends & Family online ticket presale will open April 19-25 before tickets go on sale to the community April 26. Swim clinics dive in April 4

Get ready for summer swim team with one or more of our swim clinics - Tuesdays, April 4-May 2, 5:30-7 p.m. Training includes stroke critique, new drills to help improve stroke and swimming film sessions for ages 6+. $15 Member/$25 Guest per clinic. More information here.

Nominate your favorite coach or athlete for Akron Jewish Sports Hall of Fame by April 7

This honor was established in 1971 to recognize Jewish men and women, 25 years of age and older, who live or have lived in the Akron area for ten or more years and have been a participant, coach or officiated in athletics. Applications are available at the main office or may be completed online

Shaw JCC building hours for Passover, April 10

The Shaw JCC will close at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 10 for Erev Passover. This includes the Mandel Early Childhood Education Center and KidSpace. Please also remember that no outside food or drink (except water) may be brought into the building during Passover, April 10-18. Thank you.

Yom Hashoah at Shaw JCC will feature child survivor, April 23

The Shaw JCC and the Jewish Community Board of Akron invite you to remember the Holocaust, April 23 at 7 p.m. The Yom Hashoah event will feature testimony of Helen Marks, who survived the Holocaust as a child. The commemoration is free and open to the public and is suitable for middle school students through adults. 

Celebrate Israel's Triumph & Spirit at Israel Festival, April 30

You're invited April 30 to the Israel Festival! From 12-12:30 p.m., we will remember Israel's fallen soldiers with songs by Cantor Kathy and Rachel Osherow and a performance by The Lippman School students. Afterwards, we invite you to enjoy Israeli music, bouncy house, photo magnet booth, face painting, complimentary snacks, Israel souvenirs, activities for all ages, plus an Israeli meal available for $5 through Efrat's Catering, plus world jiu-jitsu champ Lior Ofir, On the Map film and speaker from Maccabi USA.
